As a leading producer and marketer of transportation fuels, base oils, asphalt and chemicals, Flint Hills Resources has a strong history in innovation and anticipating customer demand. The company was among the first to bring cleaner-burning fuels to Minnesota and Texas, and is an industry leader when it comes to operating in an environmentally responsible manner, including emissions reduction.
The company, which has been blending biofuels since the 1980s, has recently acquired four ethanol production plants. Through its subsidiaries, Flint Hills Resources operates plants in Shell Rock and Menlo, Iowa, which were acquired on Sept. 8, 2010, and Iowa Falls and Fairbank, Iowa which were acquired on February 17, 2011.
A key part of Flint Hills Resources' growth and innovation strategy is to invest in opportunities in which there is a potential for disruptive innovation. In September, Flint Hills Resources made an equity investment in SG Biofuels, a bioenergy company that we believe has the potential to be successful in growing and supplying diesel feedstock.
